About Josh Thomas

Having worked his entire life in restaurants, Josh realized his passion for wine after several years spent in the back of the house cooking. Having established a firm understanding of what makes great food, Joshua has made the next step in his career a focus on learning all there is to know about wine. The more he learns the more he finds there is to learn.

Josh has completed his International Sommelier Guild Diploma and has passed the Advanced exam through the Court of Master Sommeliers. In 2013 Wine & Spirits Magazine named Joshua as one of their “Best New Sommeliers” in the United States.

In San Francisco, Josh worked at Prospect earning the Best award of Excellence for their list for four consecutive years in a row. He then moved on to work with Melissa Perello at Michelin starred, Octavia and Frances, creating some of the most dynamic lists in San Francisco.

Josh returned to his home town of San Antonio, Texas to partner up with Peter Selig and Chris Carlson to open Maverick Texas Brasserie in the winter of 2018. Maverick featured a broad but focused list of extensive wine offerings. In 2019 Wine Enthusiast named Maverick one of the Top 100 places to drink wine in the United States.

Joshua has since curated the lists for Allora, Arrosta, continues consulting for Biga on the Banks. In 2020 WineBid recruited Josh to help them with their accounts in Texas and other states in the South-Central states.

Since moving back to San Antonio, Josh has started a family and is constantly working on ways to get “the good juice” down to San Antonio.

“Josh has such a deep knowledge of wine and enthusiastically shares enchanting stories of individual wine makers and their terroir. Any experience with Josh leaves you feeling more connected to the 'juice' and wanting to learn more!"
